A deep dive into Madeira’s Sensa green embroidery thread for sustainable branding.
At Screenworks, we care about offering sustainable solutions. Businesses want to reduce their impact without sacrificing quality, and embroidery is no exception. Traditional polyester thread has long been the industry standard, but as a plastic-based material, it contributes to microplastic pollution, relies on fossil fuels, and complicates cotton garment recycling.
That’s where Sensa Green embroidery thread comes in. Made from TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres, it’s a high-quality, sustainable alternative that delivers premium results while reducing environmental impact.
At Merchandise World (January 2025), we showcased a Sensa Green embroidered Stanley/Stella sweater featuring this innovative thread. Here’s everything you need to know.

Sensa Green Embroidery FAQ
How many colours does it come in?
Sensa Green is available in 144 colours, offering plenty of options for branding and design.
What garments is this best for?
Sensa Green works best on 100% organic cotton, TENCEL™, and other biodegradable fabrics. To maximise recyclability, avoid pairing it with polyester-based fabrics, as blended materials complicate textile recycling. Keeping synthetic and biodegradable fibres separate simplifies garment recycling and supports a closed-loop system – which we LOVE.
Why Isn’t Sensa Green GOTS-Certified?
We often get asked why Sensa Green isn’t GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified. The simple reason is that GOTS applies to organic textiles, not embroidery threads, which are classified as accessories. However, GOTS allows non-organic embroidery threads on certified garments if they meet strict sustainability criteria—which Sensa Green does.
Can I use Sensa Green embroidery on GOTS approved garments?
Absolutely – yes!
